Kokeshi pendants
I've got a new pet item... Kokeshi dolls!
According to Wikipedia, Kokeshi (こけし ,kokeshi?), are Japanese dolls, originally from northern Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body has a floral design painted in red, black, and sometimes yellow, and covered with a layer of wax. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs. The bottom is marked with the signature of the artist.
The Kokeshi doll pendants I ordered arrived last week Friday and I couldn't wait to make necklaces out of them. So far I've made 4 and more are soon to follow: I've combined each kokeshi doll with swarovski bead charms in more or less the same colour to add a little bit of sparkle. www.bijoux-nicole.com/kawaii_cute_collection.html.

Note to self: work on my soap-cutting skills, or buy a soap cutter
So, the first thing I learned is that I'm bad at cutting soap.... or maybe i didn't have the right knife :o)) In any case, after I finished cutting up the huge block of soap in which the rubber duckies were sitting, my ducky soaps turned out like this...

"A bit" crooked and bigger than I had planned... I guess I'll keep practising and perhaps buy a soap-cutter and a decent knife :o))
In case you're wondering, the little orange duck has already found a loving home at my mother's and the yellow one will just stay with me!

Bijoux Nicole Bath & Beauty products...the soap story so far...
With Spring bursting into bloom, I thought it was time for a little change and trying something else besides jewellery-making...
As i love pampering myself with nice-smelling soaps and luscious bath bombs (check out my favourite shop http://www.lush.co.uk/ ) I started thinking that it would be great if I could make them myself et voilà, a new project was born!
Once I have an idea in my head, I kind of obsess about it: I do research, some more research, and even more research -thank god for the worldwide web- until I finally feel "prepared" enough to actually start :o))
My soap story started yesterday evening, resulting in 2 little rubber ducks embedded in a block of glycerin soap scented with Sweet Orange oil... pics coming soon. It didn't turn out too badly for a beginner, but i'll keep on practising and perfecting :o))
